Simple Pleasures

4 quarters = 1 Dr Pepper from the soda machine (with secret beer option!) at the rehearsal studio where my band practices.

Going to band practice makes me realize that I have a BAND to PRACTICE with... and this makes me insanely grateful and giddy.

Very excited for the now and the later. :-)

Houseparty Hootenanny Potluck - Thurs Oct 1st

You may have heard we recently made a new EP! WE DID!

You may have heard we recently took a PLAY and the BAND to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in Scotland! Well, WE DID!

You may have NOT heard the Evangenitals play live in the US recently! That's because WE HAVEN'T!!!

So on THURSDAY OCTOBER 1st we're having a HOOTENANNY POTLUCK to celebrate!

We'll fill your ear holes with music & stories and your eyeballs with smiles & slide shows from our UK travels! You can pick up the new EP and get filled up with Evangenital joy. Good deal, eh?

Bring a dish, we'll bring the cheap wine & beer for a donation bar (tohelp us recoup some more travel expenses!), and together we can get reacquainted under the stars.

On the musical platter... we will put an end to our long separation from are darling accordion player Ari DeSano by enjoying the incredible tunes of ODIOUS ARI & THE SYPHILITIC SYCOPHANTS from 8-9pm.

Then the Evangenitals shall croon from 9-10pm!! At last, at last!

It's all going down at our Sancho's... I mean.... actor Chris Goodson's awesome home (with terraced backyard and outdoor stage!) located at:

611 Isabel Street
Los Angeles, CA 90065

7:30pm - 10:30pm

Bring a dish, or just bring your sweet self!!!

RSVP's are welcome but not required. Just come, come, COME N' GET IT!!!

http://ping.fm/FHSul?eid=134111144361

See you there!

Love,
Juli, the Evangenitals, and the Quixote crew

*** Too far away to make it to the party?

Improbable Perversion

While eating a handful of small, peeled carrots I noticed a slight slimy and tart residue on one of the morsels. My first (and quite surprising) thought was a mildly panicked "Semen?!"

The improbability of this was immense, as I am a woman living alone and cannot imagine the circumstances in which one could have feasibly ejaculated on my bagged carrots.

The fact that it was my first thought disturbed me. Later I found it amusing. "First thought, best thought."

Lest I forget...

A couple images I'd like to hold on to:

the eerie beauty of a blank white billboard hazily shining through the fog on a dark mountain road

a very pregnant about to pop young girl at a truckstop smoking cigarettes and laughing with her friends

lonely town

I'm sitting in this truck stop city somewhere in Portland, Oregon. The place is called "jubitz" and it's a whole town in itself... truck stop, country music venue & dance hall, mini-mall with an arcade, food court, movie theater, a restaurant, hotel... all in a small corner of nowhere, it seems.

Played a show with Cash'd Out here tonight and all was well until I was walking through the hallway and got slammed with a profound wall of sadness that had the peculiar flavor of being NOT MINE. I checked my heart and soul pockets and sure enough, I'm doing fine. No profound loneliness, no deep melancholy... not today... so I've been roving the halls trying to figure out exactly where the "hot spots" are... what residents, current and/or ghostly, are emitting this powerful mood?

I've found the spot. THE spot where the feeling is for sure most intense. And I'm sitting in it. Soaking it up. I think I feel a song coming on. :-)

On Clarity & Snow

We the people should have AT LEAST as many words for the shades and phases and varieties of LOVE as the eskimos have for snow. Lumping it all into the one term is disastrously confusing in this incarnation.

BACK in the US. New EP of OURS.

We made it! 3 weeks in the UK... 7 brave souls... approximately 30 shows later... and we're BACK! Hello America!!! We can't thank you enough for the love and support that carried us overseas. So we'll just keep thanking you every chance we get. Thank you!

It's all still a bit of a blur. We're catching our breath, sorting our photos, and getting ready to burst back onto the scene... or rather, its more of a cheeky jig. We had an amazing adventure over there in Scotland and we've got a ton of stories to share. We'll dish 'em out gently. One at a time.

For now, first things first:

Just DAYS before we left town, our new EP was printed! Seven tracks of solid gold recorded at Del Boca Vista Studio in South Pasadena with Tracy Chisholm. It's a real beauty. A hit in the United Kingdom already! And now YOU can have one, too.

PAYPAL or MAIL us just $12, and we'll mail you a copy of the new EP. How's that for an lovely exchange? Simple as Pi. ;-)

You can PAYPAL 12$ to: info@evangenitals.com

Or MAIL 12$ to:
The Evangenitals (yes, you can make a check out to the Evangenitals!)
PO Box 70318
Pasadena, CA 91107

Do that, and we'll send you the shiny new EP with a sleek Evangenitals Ultra Crest eco-friendly cover, no questions asked! Except for your mailing address. We'll need that.

Stay tuned for upcoming shows and other exciting news. We've got some good buns in the oven.

In the meantime, there's already a video on Facebook (the first of many to come!) from our show in London at The Sheep Walk for your viewing pleasure:

So much love,
Juli & the Evangenitals

Set List - The Forest, 20th August

I can't vouch for the correctness of this. I wildly diverted from the set list and rode the crowd energy. I was a huge, mad, sweaty, crazy show... And I think it went something like this:

Evangina:
Love You Forever
When You Walked Out On Me
I'll Be Your Baby Tonight

Evangenitals:
1. Ahab's Leg
2. Bad Town
3. Hard Luck
4. Can You Picture That?
5. Sun is Shining
6. The Hole
7. Vagina Song
8. 30 Days
9. Weezer/Medley
10.Fuck 'em All
11. Sergio
12. So Sweet
13. Gasoline

Whew! :-)

John Maus

Just bought a bracelet from India at a little shop in Scotland with 12 different images of Christ crucified on it. Very, very awesome.

Set List, 13th Note, Glasgow (short set!)

We had to rush this one, as Lisa and I had to catch the night train home to Edinburgh by 11:30pm!

We played with Billy (solo) from Glasgow Glam Bangers, Scunner, and a really cute boy/girl duo that I need to look up their names!

In a room full of total strangers (except for the Scunner boys who played the Forest with us) we played:

1. Ahab's Leg
2. Bad Town
3. The Hole
4. Hard Luck
5. Can You Picture That?
6. 30 Days
7. Vagina Song
8. Gasoline

*Strangely enough, Neko Case is playing at the 13th Note as well on her September tour! It appears she's following us! :-)

Set List - The Sheep Walk - London

This is mostly for Michael, but if anyone else cares, that's cool too!

Here's the set list, as close as I can recall, from our show at What's Cookin' at the Sheep Walk in Leytonstone, London, England.

We deviated from the plan a little bit on this set, cuz the audience was AWESOME, and we had to come up with FOUR encores, cuz the audience was AWESOME... but this is how I remember it. I will check with the boys and see if it seems true... and there is some video from this show coming home with us.

1. Hello
2. Ahab's Leg
3. Bad Town
4. Hard Luck
5. Work Song
6. Sergio
7. 30 Days
8. The Hole
9. So Sweet
10. Gasoline

Encore 1: Sun is Shining (?)
Encore 2: Fuck 'em All & Vagina Song
Encore 3: Weezer Medley
Encore 4: Quee Queg

fears even more that it might be given human form
